About the position

The Elementary Custodian Rover at Granite School District plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of school facilities. This position is designed to cover for the head custodian, ensuring that all custodial duties are performed efficiently and effectively. The custodian rover is responsible for a variety of tasks that include routine maintenance of school buildings, securing the premises at the beginning and end of shifts, and training and monitoring contract and hourly custodial employees. The role requires a strong commitment to attendance, punctuality, and reliability, as these are essential functions of the job. In this position, the custodian rover will clean various areas of the school, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, and offices, adhering to district standards. Responsibilities also include washing walls, ceilings, and windows, maintaining and sanitizing restrooms, and managing inventory of cleaning supplies. The custodian rover will also be involved in grounds maintenance, which includes mowing lawns, removing snow and debris, and weeding. Additionally, the role may require performing minor repairs and assisting with the setup of rooms for meetings and activities. The custodian rover must be knowledgeable about cleaning procedures, safety protocols, and emergency procedures. They will also be expected to operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, ensuring that all tasks are completed to a high standard. This position requires a proactive approach to maintaining a clean and safe environment for students and staff, and the ability to respond to emergencies as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine maintenance of school and district buildings.
  • Check and secure the building at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Train and monitor contract and hourly employees.
  • Clean rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas according to district standards.
  • Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, sills, and touchpoints.
  • Maintain, clean, and sanitize restrooms, including filling dispensers.
  • Mop or run an auto scrubber and extract/bonnet carpets.
  • Assist with floor refinishing and clean up body fluids following bloodborne pathogen procedures.
  • Order and keep inventory of cleaning and paper supplies.
  • Remove garbage and maintain grounds, including mowing, edging, and weeding.
  • May remove graffiti and repair vandalism.
  • Perform minor repairs to windows, doors, and equipment.
  • Prepare and set up rooms for meetings and activities, and clean up afterwards.
  • Help maintain and operate mechanical systems and assist in building security after hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of custodial experience is required.
  • CPR Certification is preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain basic cleaning equipment, including buffers and auto scrubbers.
  • Knowledge of cleaning solvents and their proper application.
  • Familiarity with bloodborne pathogens and cleaning procedures.
  • Basic reading and math skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in training and supervising others.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures such as shelter in place and lockdown protocols.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $30.9K - $39.2K per year.
  • 12-month contract length (243 days).
  • Non-exempt position with eligibility for overtime.
