About the position

The primary purpose of this position is to enable children to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher. The individual in this role will be responsible for delivering lessons prepared by the absent teacher, ensuring that the educational experience remains uninterrupted. This includes reviewing plans and schedules with the principal, supervisor, or designated teacher to ensure alignment with the school's educational objectives. The substitute teacher will also be expected to report on the day's activities at the conclusion of each day and provide feedback as requested by the building principal. It is essential that the substitute follows all school and Charter Schools USA (CSUSA) policies, rules, and procedures, adhering to good teaching practices throughout their tenure in the classroom. In addition to instructional duties, the substitute teacher will play a crucial role in student management. This involves maintaining established routines and procedures within the classroom, overseeing pupil behavior, and ensuring that appropriate student conduct is upheld at all times. The substitute will also be expected to maintain good relations with faculty and staff, treating all information regarding students and staff with the utmost confidentiality. The role may also include other duties as assigned, reflecting the dynamic nature of the educational environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment toward the job and the mission of the company, supporting the values of academic excellence, operational performance, superior culture, and financial health and growth as outlined in the Employee Handbook. The ability to work and interact effectively with staff and relate to individuals at all levels of the organization is essential. The incumbent must also possess strong time management skills, basic computer skills, and effective communication abilities, including oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews with the principal, supervisor and/or designated teacher the plans and schedule to be followed during the teaching day.
  • Teaches the lessons prepared by the absent teacher.
  • Reports in writing the day's activities at conclusion of each day and provides other feedback as requested by the building principal.
  • Follows all school and CSUSA policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
  • Consults, as appropriate, with the building principal and/or supervisor before initiating any lesson or other procedure not specified in the teacher's plans.
  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classrooms to which they are assigned.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and at other times during the school day as requested.
  • Maintains appropriate student behavior at all times throughout the school day for assigned students.
  • Maintains good relations with the faculty and staff of the district.
  • Treats information about students and staff with utmost confidence.

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of District's Substitute Workshop (as required by the district).
