About the position

The Elementary Media Clerk at Washington Magnet Elementary School is responsible for providing clerical services and general office support to the staff of the school. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the school office and supporting the Media Specialist in various tasks related to library management. The incumbent will perform a variety of clerical duties as directed by the principal and will be involved in maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the school office and library. The position requires a high school diploma and strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. The ability to operate office machines and computer systems is also necessary, with a preference for experience with eSchool software. In addition to clerical duties, the Media Clerk will assist in the management of library materials, including making simple repairs on damaged books, processing severely damaged books for repair, and preparing books for reserve based on teacher requests. The role also involves shelving incoming books, overseeing the neatness and attractiveness of the library, and assisting in the annual inventory of library materials. The Media Clerk will be expected to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency of the school environment. The position is full-time, with a contract duration of nine and one-fourth months (188 days), and offers a salary range of $17,052 to $30,072, depending on experience. The role is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Responsibilities

  • Operates all office machines and assists in keeping the school office organized and clean.
  • Makes simple repairs on damaged books and processes severely damaged books for repair at the bindery.
  • Readies books for reserve on teacher's request and maintains the back-number stacks.
  • Assists the Media Specialist in the annual inventory of library materials and prepares lists of missing books to be discarded.
  • Shelves incoming books and oversees the general neatness and attractiveness of the library and its displays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate telephone console (instructions provided).
  • Computer skills, with experience in eSchool preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer software and hardware.
