About the position

Ivy Hall Academy is seeking a dedicated and creative Part-Time Art Teacher for our elementary and middle school students, specifically for grades Preschool through 7th grade. This position requires teaching approximately 10-12 hours per week, with classes scheduled from Monday to Thursday between 12:30 PM and 3 PM, and on Friday from 12:30 PM to 2 PM. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching art to elementary and middle school students and possess a strong understanding of various art mediums, including drawing, painting, and sculpting. The teacher will be responsible for organizing engaging art lessons that meet state standards and cater to the diverse skill levels of students. In addition to delivering impactful instruction, the Art Teacher will be tasked with publishing, hanging, and showcasing student artwork throughout the school, ensuring that the displays are updated at least four times a year. The teacher must arrive prepared for each class, bringing creative ideas and maintaining an organized and clean art room, including furniture and equipment. Clear communication with homeroom teachers is essential, particularly regarding student incidents and safety. As part of a Leader in Me school, the teacher will model and implement the 7 Habits principles, fostering a collaborative environment with parents, students, and colleagues. The Art Teacher will also play a vital role in assessing and recording student progress, providing grades and feedback to both students and parents. Collaboration with other teachers and stakeholders is encouraged to enhance the educational experience. The position requires a commitment to professionalism and a strong moral foundation, as the school emphasizes values such as scholarship, leadership, citizenship, entrepreneurship, and faith. The school year is set to begin on August 26, 2024, and will conclude in May 2025, with hiring taking place before the school year starts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide impactful instruction to each student
  • Assess and record students' progress and provide grades and feedback to students and parents
  • Collaborate with other teachers, parents, and stakeholders
  • Plan and execute educational in-class and outdoor activities and events
  • Observe and understand students' behavior and psyche and report suspicions of neglect, abuse, etc.
  • Ensure students participate in both self and team physical activities
  • Maintain an organized and clean art room, furniture, and equipment
  • Publish, hang, and show student artwork around the school, changing displays at least four times a year
  • Communicate clearly with homeroom teachers regarding incidents and student safety
  • Model and implement the 7 Habits principles and behaviors with parents, students, and co-workers

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in teaching or a specialized subject such as PE or Health
  • Teaching certification preferred but not required
  • Proven experience as a teacher, preferably with at least 1 year of teaching experience
  • Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal educational guidelines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well-organized and committed to maintaining professionalism
  • Creative and energetic with strong Christian moral values and discipline
  • Ability to relocate to Provo, UT before starting work
