About the position
The Special Education Teacher for Elementary and Middle Schools at Amergis is responsible for providing quality educational services to special education students from kindergarten through grade 12. This role involves collaborating with parents and general education staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that support students with a range of disabilities. The teacher will design and deliver instruction that aligns with the general education curriculum, monitor student progress, and maintain accurate records while fostering positive relationships with students and their families.
Responsibilities
- Prepares student education plans in consultation with parents and department team members
- Supports learning for students with a wide range of disabilities
- Designs individual and small group instruction that parallels the general education curriculum
- Assists in developing educational plans with parents and professionals
- Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities
- Coordinates IEP implementation with general education staff
- Monitors student progress and participates in IEP reviews
- Maintains accurate student records
- Mentors and supports teaching assistants
- Supports students in preparation for grade transitions and life skills
- Assesses students' skills and educational needs
- Communicates students' progress with other teachers
- Maintains positive relationships with students and parents
- Follows School District policies and procedures
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred
- Valid state teaching certificate as required by state regulations
- Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment preferred
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred
- Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR certification if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate as per contract or state regulation
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in English
- Computer proficiency required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
