About the position

The Elementary Principal at Livonia Public Schools is a key leadership role responsible for fostering a student-centered, collaborative, and innovative school culture. The principal will lead efforts to enhance student engagement and achievement, create effective learning environments, and ensure continuous improvement for both students and staff. This position requires a commitment to meeting the needs of the whole child and engaging the community in the educational process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a student-centered school culture that promotes achievement for all students.
  • Identify and implement best practices in leadership and instruction to enhance student engagement.
  • Establish the tone, climate, and direction of the school through effective planning and assessment.
  • Encourage parental participation and community involvement in the educational experience.
  • Administer and supervise the school building and community effectively.
  • Lead the professional staff in ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Utilize data to inform decisions and measure progress of student and school performance.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and disciplined school environment conducive to teaching and learning.
  • Generate parental and community support for the school.
  • Execute other duties as assigned by the Director of Elementary Programs & District Services or the Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a master's degree in school administration or educational leadership.
  • Current school administrator's certificate or enrollment in an approved preparation program within 6 months of hire.
  • Passionate commitment to improving learning for all students.
  • Visionary and creative leadership skills.
  • Successful administrative experience or other leadership roles.
  • Ability to engage others in developing and achieving a shared vision.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish positive working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community relations and generating parental involvement.
  • Knowledge of educational developments and legislation affecting education.
