About the position

The Elementary School Based Mental Health Counselor at KIPP Texas Public Schools plays a vital role in supporting students' social, emotional, and academic success. This position involves conducting assessments, providing counseling, and coordinating with families and community resources to help students overcome barriers to learning. The counselor will work collaboratively with school personnel and community partners to enhance understanding of student needs and implement effective interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments of individuals and families to improve student social, emotional, behavioral, and academic outcomes.
  • Complete reliable and valid assessments to inform intervention design.
  • Assess campus needs to prioritize service delivery.
  • Provide consultation to school personnel, parents/guardians, and community partners.
  • Act as a liaison with community agencies to ensure continuity of services.
  • Facilitate crisis response and provide follow-up counseling and referrals.
  • Utilize evidence-informed practices in interventions.
  • Use data to assess needs and plan interventions for students and groups.
  • Maintain accurate records and safeguard privacy and confidentiality.
  • Adhere to professional ethics and development requirements.
  • Meet state and District mandated reporting requirements.
  • Provide services with multicultural understanding and competence.
  • Empower students and families to access school and community resources.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Current Texas license as LMSW, LCSW, LMSW-AP, LPC, or LPC-I/LPC-A.
  • Knowledge of social services and programs for mental health and academic needs.
  • Experience in crisis response.
  • Ability to conduct interventions in various settings professionally.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience managing a student caseload for a single campus.
