About the position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. The role involves assisting in the preparation, conducting, and management of classroom activities. The instructional aide will work closely with students to support their learning in various subjects, particularly reading, writing, and mathematics.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher, working with individual students or small groups.
- Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Make the teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate's degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the No Child Left Behind Act or the Every Student Succeeds Act.
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
- Criminal background/fingerprinting required.
- Some experience working with children.
