About the position

The Elementary School Special Education Teacher (Tenure Track) is responsible for structuring the learning environment to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and social growth. The teacher will demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities while maintaining a positive learning environment. This position requires a New Jersey Instructional Certificate (Teacher of Students with Disabilities Cert Required) and involves various responsibilities including planning, record keeping, and evaluating students.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of subject matter.
  • Directs instruction toward district outcome and process goals and instructs students in accordance with district courses of study.
  • Develops and maintains long term and daily written lesson plans based on student needs, interests and abilities.
  • Maintains accurate records of student progress indicative of an ongoing evaluation process.
  • Uses diagnostic/prescriptive process for assessment and evaluates all students with provisions for individual differences.
  • Completes required teacher/administrative reports promptly and accurately.
  • Organizes a classroom for learning using instructional materials effectively.
  • Provides for student's individual levels of achievement, abilities, and interests.
  • Creates an environment conducive to student development and execution of programs and projects.
  • Demonstrates effective teaching techniques using varied instructional methods adjusted to course content and student characteristics.
  • Clarifies assignments given to students so that purposes and directions are understood.
  • Plans and conducts effective parent/guardian conferences and maintains cooperative parent/guardian relationships.
  • Participates in solving classroom and school problems and seeks resolutions through appropriate channels.
  • Cooperates in curriculum development and evaluation activities.
  • Establishes and follows an individual program of professional renewal.

Requirements

  • New Jersey Instructional Certificate (Teacher of Students with Disabilities Cert Required)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Required criminal background check and proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status

Benefits
