About the position

The special education teacher is a state-certified educator responsible for delivering course content in an online environment, focusing on individual student needs. This role involves providing instruction, support, and guidance while managing the learning process. The teacher monitors student progress, collaborates with families, and participates in school functions, all while typically working from home.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of students' academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in students' achievement.
  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
  • Conduct live synchronous teaching for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Provide asynchronous support, including planning course objectives and preparing learning plans.
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and national teams regarding instruction and data-driven decision making.
  • Be open to coaching from administrators and teacher trainers.
  • Augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate tools.
  • Submit grades and maintain a grade book, ensuring academic honesty and integrity.
  • Generate reports regarding student progress and alert administrators to concerns.

Requirements

  • Current Oklahoma special education teaching license or proof of application.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce student data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
  • Experience working with the proposed age group and in a virtual environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of state content standards and ability to align with K12 curriculum.
  • Experience teaching in an online or brick-and-mortar environment.
  • Experience with online platforms like Blackboard Collaborative or Newrow.
