About the position

The Elementary Spanish Immersion - Bilingual Teacher position at Kansas City Public Schools involves teaching core subjects in Spanish to public elementary school students. The teacher will be responsible for instructing students in both Spanish and English, utilizing various teaching methods such as lecturing, demonstrating, and employing audiovisual aids to enhance bilingual presentations. The role requires careful planning of the dual language and immersion program, ensuring that daily class time is organized effectively to facilitate student preparation and instruction. In this position, the teacher will provide individual and small group instruction, adapting the bilingual curriculum to meet the diverse needs of each student. Developing age-appropriate instructional strategies and course objectives is essential to achieve the goals of the immersion and dual language curriculum while adhering to state and school guidelines. The teacher will also be responsible for preparing, administering, and correcting tests, as well as recording results to track student progress. Additionally, the teacher will assist the Foreign Language Resources teacher and participate in various curriculum and faculty committees, developmental programs, and teacher training workshops. Responsibilities also include selecting and requisitioning books and instructional aids, as well as maintaining inventory records to ensure that all necessary materials are available for effective teaching.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Spanish, or a related degree.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Spanish in primary or secondary education.
  • Missouri State Teacher Certification in Spanish (K-12).
