About the position

RISE Education is seeking a passionate and experienced Elementary Spanish Teacher to join our team in Camp Springs, MD. Our organization provides World Language, Music, Art, Technology, and Physical Education learning through cultural immersion for children from toddlers to teens. The ideal candidate will thrive in an elementary school classroom environment, demonstrating a child-centered approach and the ability to create a safe and well-ordered classroom. As an Elementary Spanish Teacher, you will be responsible for developing engaging and innovative lessons that promote academic, social, and emotional growth among students. You should have a solid understanding of national curriculum standards and experience in closing the achievement gap. Incorporating technology and hands-on learning experiences into your teaching is essential, as is collaborating with colleagues to foster understanding and communication in a diverse learning environment. This part-time position requires you to provide conversational classes focusing on pronunciation and essential phrases, teach writing and Spanish composition, and educate students about Spanish culture, including festivals, traditional foods, and social conventions. You will also be responsible for creating a nurturing learning environment, setting clear expectations, and developing curricula that meet academic standards. Regular communication with parents and families to invest them in their children's academic success is also a key part of this role. The position is set to start on August 26, 2024, with a schedule of Monday from 8 AM to 3 PM and Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Providing conversational classes where pronunciation and important words and phrases are taught.
  • Teaching writing and Spanish composition classes.
  • Teaching students about Spanish culture, including festivals, traditional food, dress, and social conventions.
  • Fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Setting and reinforcing clear expectations and routines aligned with the school's vision.
  • Developing and implementing curricula and activities to meet academic standards.
  • Thoughtfully planning daily lessons and implementing strategies to meet the needs of all students.
  • Demonstrating strong content knowledge.
  • Designing and implementing assessments that measure progress towards academic standards and diagnose areas of student misunderstanding.
  • Using assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices.
  • Being accountable for students' academic growth and increasing each individual student's achievement.
  • Creating a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment.
  • Reflecting on successes and areas of growth as a teacher and responding to feedback.
  • Participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
  • Investing parents and families in their children's academic success through regular communication.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Must have experience working with children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and often with parents and families.
  • Strong instructional skills and classroom management.
  • Enthusiasm for and demonstrated mastery of subject matter.
  • Unrelenting commitment to students, self, and school's constant learning and development.
  • Ability to self-reflect on teaching practices and be responsive to feedback.
