About the position

The position involves teaching students in a designated classroom setting, focusing on creating an effective learning environment tailored to individual student needs. The educator is responsible for planning lessons, assessing student progress, and maintaining communication with parents, while adhering to district curriculum goals and educational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a conducive classroom environment appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Guides the learning process toward established district curriculum goals and communicates clear objectives to students.
  • Prepares for classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media based on student needs and physical limitations of the location.
  • Implements the district's educational philosophy, instructional goals, and performance expectations.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Diagnoses learning challenges of students and seeks assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follows the code of conduct for the classroom and develops fair rules of behavior.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and evaluates them as required.
  • Maintains a program of professional growth that meets district requirements and personal expectations.
  • Participates in the teacher evaluation process and contributes to mutual agreements regarding evaluations.
  • Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and decision-making among staff.
  • Participates in traditional school-sponsored activities as agreed upon with the building administrator.
  • Contributes to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

Requirements

  • Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
  • Appropriate educator license (Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities) and grade level (PreK-8) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred or expected within 5 years.
