About The Position

The Special Education Teacher (Elementary) is responsible for providing special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. This role involves developing or modifying curricula and preparing lessons and other instructional materials tailored to student ability levels. The teacher may work in a self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements.
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area.
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal-setting process and implementation.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to adapt curriculum and instructions for special needs.
  • Ability to supervise the work of some employees.
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.

Responsibilities
