About the position

The Elementary Special Education Teacher will be responsible for providing specialized instruction to students with diverse learning needs in a self-contained resource room setting. This position requires a deep understanding of various disabilities and the ability to create individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique requirements. The teacher will work closely with students to develop their academic, social, and emotional skills, ensuring they have access to a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Collaboration with general education teachers, parents, and support staff is essential to facilitate the integration of students into mainstream classrooms when appropriate. The teacher will also be responsible for assessing student progress, adapting instructional strategies, and maintaining accurate records of student performance and behavior. Additionally, the role involves implementing behavioral interventions and promoting positive behavior management strategies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide specialized instruction in a self-contained resource room setting.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, adapting instruction as needed.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement IEPs effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Experience with specific disabilities such as autism or learning disabilities.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive teaching methods.
