About the position
The Elementary School Teacher at Oakland International Academy is responsible for promoting and nurturing the education of students in grades K-5. This role involves planning and tailoring courses of study, monitoring academic efforts, and providing a safe and conducive learning environment. The teacher will engage with students through various teaching techniques and maintain communication with parents regarding student progress.
Responsibilities
- Educates students by planning and developing course of study according to curriculum guidelines and state requirements.
- Tailors course of study by developing modifications for various levels of academic ability.
- Develops and presents lesson plans using a variety of techniques, including lectures, projects, and audiovisual resources.
- Monitors, assists, corrects, and grades student results by preparing assignments and tests.
- Maintains order in the classroom by counseling students with behavioral problems and consulting with professionals as needed.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy educational environment by enforcing standards and procedures.
- Counsels students with academic difficulties and utilizes school resources for additional assistance.
- Keeps parents informed by maintaining records of academic performance and reporting at conferences.
- Provides student support services by monitoring halls and sponsoring student organizations.
- Updates job knowledge by attending faculty meetings and participating in educational opportunities.
Requirements
- Must possess a Bachelor's degree.
- Must hold a current and valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with K-8 Self-Contained Endorsement.
- Experience in teaching (1 year preferred).
