About the position

The Elementary Teacher position at Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is designed to provide instruction to students in a manner that enhances their achievement and mastery of state curriculum standards. The teacher will be responsible for meeting and instructing assigned classes at designated times, utilizing Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) as the primary instructional model. This role requires the planning of a program of study that caters to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, creating a conducive classroom environment that aligns with their maturity and interests. In addition to lesson planning, the teacher will prepare for classes and maintain written evidence of preparation. Establishing clear targets for lessons, classwork, and projects is essential, as these targets must be communicated effectively to students throughout the lesson. The teacher will support the program of study using various instructional techniques, media, and technology, while also serving as a model for the district's mission, vision, and goals. Regular assessment of student progress is a critical duty, with the teacher providing progress reports as required. The role also involves recognizing potential learning disabilities among students and seeking assistance from qualified personnel when necessary. Maintaining accurate records as mandated by law and district policy is essential, as is the confidentiality of information regarding students, colleagues, and parents. The teacher will assist in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct, develop reasonable classroom behavior rules, and maintain order in a fair manner. Availability to students and parents for educational purposes outside of instructional hours is expected. The teacher will also supervise teacher aides and volunteers, attend staff meetings, analyze data to guide instruction, and maintain professional competence through ongoing learning activities. Proactive communication with parents/guardians regarding students' academic progress and readiness for college and careers is also a key responsibility.

  • Plan, supervise, and provide guidance for teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and serve on committees.
  • Analyze and use data to guide instruction and develop assessments.
  • Provide detailed plans for substitute teachers including lessons and schedules.
  • Supervise pupils at school-related functions.
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional learning activities.
  • Establish and sustain collaborative work relationships with staff and faculty.
  • Proactively communicate with parents/guardians about students' academic progress.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A valid Tennessee Teacher's Certificate with the appropriate endorsement.
  • Considerable knowledge of school system policies, procedures, and activities.
  • Ability to develop and implement long-term goals.
  • Effective communication and interaction skills with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to assemble information and create clear written reports.
  • Good organizational, management, interpersonal, and technical skills.
  • Independent judgment and discretion in supervising subordinates.
