About the position

The Teacher at Digital Academy of Florida is a highly qualified, state-certified educator responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. This role involves providing instruction, support, and guidance to students while managing the learning process and focusing on individual needs. Teachers monitor student progress through K12's learning management system and work closely with students and parents to advance learning toward established goals. The position requires the ability to work independently from home, typically 40+ hours per week, and involves occasional travel for school functions such as state testing.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership for students' academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in students' achievement.
  • Prepare students for high stakes standardized tests.
  • Conduct live synchronous teaching for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Provide asynchronous support including planning course objectives and preparing learning plans.
  • Collaborate with local/regional/national teams regarding instruction and data-driven decision making.
  • Be open to coaching from administrators and teacher trainers.
  • Augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate tools.
  • Submit grades and maintain a grade book, ensuring academic honesty and integrity.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicate with students and learning coaches/parents.
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment.
  • Organize social and educational activities for students and families, including virtual clubs and outings.
  • Travel to testing sites to proctor state exams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Six months of student teaching experience
  • Ability to clear required background check(s)
  • Florida 5 Year Professional Elementary Certificate
  • Florida Reading and ESOL Endorsements
  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught
  • Knowledge of state content standards and ability to align with K12 curriculum
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt for excellent student outcomes
  • Ability to problem solve independently and maintain high organization
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
  • Access to reliable high-speed internet
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
