About the position

WISE Academy is seeking an enthusiastic elementary teacher to foster and facilitate the intellectual and social development of students in grades 1-5. The role involves planning, implementing, and assessing lessons while creating a positive classroom environment that aligns with the school's mission of providing a holistic education. The teacher will utilize various instructional methods to motivate children and adapt the curriculum to meet individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Teaches ELA (reading, writing, listening, speaking), social studies, mathematics, science, and life skills to students in alignment with Michigan State Standards.
• Creates a welcoming and positive classroom climate and culture.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small group instruction.
• Translates lesson plans into effective learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
• Exhibits understanding of literacy development and utilizes research-based instructional strategies appropriate for various grade levels.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for an effective learning atmosphere.
• Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares report cards.
• Integrates school improvement goals into the classroom.
• Maintains student classroom records using current district technology.
• Communicates with parents regarding curriculum, assessments, and student progress.
• Identifies student needs and collaborates with other staff to address social, emotional, and academic issues.
• Creates an effective learning environment through displays, instructional materials, and bulletin boards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education
• A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the elementary level
• Michigan Teacher Certification; ZG endorsement elementary K-5 recognized by the Michigan Department of Education (preferred)
• Advanced Placement (AP) Certification (preferred)
• Ability to facilitate resolution of interpersonal issues
• Successful experience in shared decision making, lesson development, and classroom supervision
• Evidence of experience working with diverse communities
• Demonstrates good character, flexibility, and teamwork
• Ability to confer with parents, staff, and stakeholders about educational activities and policies
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, delegate, and listen

Nice-to-haves
