About the position

The ELL Paraprofessional at New Mark Middle School is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the English Language Learners (ELL) program. This role involves delivering instructional support to ELL students, collaborating with teachers, and maintaining effective communication with families and staff. The position requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment for students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver English language development instruction to identified ELLs in small groups and/or individual sessions under the supervision of the ELL teacher.
  • Provide small group instruction to ELLs in the regular classroom setting under the direction of the ELL and classroom teachers.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the ELL teacher and classroom teachers to plan and deliver appropriate instruction to ELLs.
  • Assist with the administration and scoring of language assessments for ELL students.
  • Maintain required reporting and record keeping related to ELL students and the ELL program.
  • Devise special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students' backgrounds.
  • Assist the ELL teacher with maintaining good home-school communication and request interpreters when necessary.
  • Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, and other activities.
  • Serve as the chief source of information for substitute teachers in the absence of the ELL teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and demonstrate ethical behavior.
  • Perform routine clerical duties as assigned, such as filing and typing.
  • May be assigned specific duties like hallway supervision or bus duty.

Requirements

  • A minimum of thirty-sixty college hours from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Pass the Paraprofessional test in the State of Missouri or complete the Missouri 20-hour Online Substitute Training Program.
  • Sixty college hours is preferred.
  • A valid Missouri Teaching Certificate is preferred.
  • Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
