About the position

The Elmira Urban Green Equity (EUGE) Project Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day management and coordination of the Elmira Urban Green Equity Hazard Mitigation Grant, aimed at enhancing and restoring healthy trees and green areas in Chemung County. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, community outreach, and the implementation of strategies to combat climate change while promoting environmental justice in socially vulnerable districts.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement the Elmira Urban Green Equity project activities.
  • Assist in managing administrative functions related to the project.
  • Oversee and support EUGE volunteers in their activities.
  • Organize community outreach and education efforts regarding urban forestry and climate mitigation.
  • Research and identify hazard mitigation strategies and greening initiatives.
  • Develop best practices for plant selection, care, and maintenance.
  • Conduct community stakeholder input sessions and evaluation activities.
  • Facilitate educational workshops and presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with local government, environmental groups, and community volunteers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education (Associate's Degree and two years of relevant experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License and ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 20-50 lbs regularly.
  • Willingness to work in diverse and challenging weather conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years of professional experience in horticulture, arboriculture, urban forestry, or climate mitigation.
  • Experience working with diverse groups and developing community programs.
  • Expertise in public policy development and outreach materials.
  • Project management, grants, and fund development experience.
  • Volunteer management and team building experience.
