About the position

The Elmira Urban Green Equity Project Coordinator will manage and coordinate the Elmira Urban Green Equity Hazard Mitigation Grant, focusing on maintaining and restoring healthy trees and green areas to combat climate change and promote environmental justice in vulnerable districts of Chemung County. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, community outreach, and the implementation of greening initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement the Elmira Urban Green Equity project.
  • Assist in managing administrative functions related to the project.
  • Oversee volunteers involved in the Elmira Urban Green Equity initiative.
  • Organize planning efforts and review community policies and resources.
  • Research and identify hazard mitigation strategies and benefits of greening initiatives.
  • Develop best practices for plant selection, care, and maintenance.
  • Identify future funding sources and programs for the project.
  • Conduct community outreach and education activities.
  • Facilitate community stakeholder input sessions and evaluation activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education (Associate's Degree with two years of relevant experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License and ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry 20-50 lbs. regularly.
  • Willingness to work in diverse and challenging weather conditions.
