About the position

PACCAR Embedded Engineering organization has an immediate opening for an Embedded Hardware Engineer to join our Autonomous Vehicle Platform team in Kirkland, WA. PACCAR is a Fortune 500 company established in 1905 and is recognized as a global leader in the commercial vehicle, financial, and customer service fields with internationally recognized brands such as Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF trucks. The Embedded Engineering department is rapidly expanding and transforming the way control systems and software are developed for commercial vehicle applications, including the latest vehicle controls, display technology, and autonomous truck solutions. The successful candidate will collaborate with an international, cross-functional team focused on driving superior technical solutions that maximize customer uptime and operating efficiency. The Embedded Hardware Engineer will be responsible for the electrical and electronic component and subsystem design, as well as electrical integration into heavy-duty vehicles. This role requires a can-do attitude and a vigorous approach to work, managing electrical and electronic components or systems through all stages of product development, from initial prototype development to production and beyond for autonomous commercial trucks. The engineer will work closely with mechanical engineers, software engineers, and other professionals to ensure quality electrical designs, solve problems across technical domains, and support validation activities to ensure industry-leading quality and reliability are met or exceeded on all components and systems. Additionally, the engineer will support new product launches at truck assembly plants and resolve field issues as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Manage electrical and electronic components or systems through all stages of product development, including initial prototype development through to the start of production and beyond, for autonomous commercial trucks.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team with mechanical engineers, software engineers, and other professionals to ensure quality electrical designs.
  • Solve problems across technical domains and across the product development lifecycle, from early-stage research to field failures and warranty investigations of products in mass production.
  • Support validation activities across supplier and internal teams to ensure industry-leading quality and reliability are met/maintained/exceeded on all components and systems.
  • Support new product launches at truck assembly plants as needed and resolve field issues as identified.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant degree required.
  • M.S. in an appropriate technical field (CS/EE preferred) and/or PE license preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in the design & release of automotive or commercial vehicle electrical components, including software, wire harnesses, electronic controls, switches, driver input devices, and/or HMI.
  • Proficiency in using Engineering tools (Pro-Engineer, Mentor Graphics, Matlab/Simulink, Rhapsody).
  • Knowledge of SAE J1939, ISO 26262, and ISO 17987 LIN Protocol standards and compliance practices.
  • Awareness of heavy-duty commercial truck regulations, especially affecting instrumentation, emissions, safety, On Board Diagnostics, and other areas impacting electrical/electronic design, architecture, and functionality.
  • Experience with supplier management through AlAG processes.
  • Knowledge of DFSS tools including FMEA, QFD, etc.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, lean, collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good planning/tracking skills.
  • Competency with standard business software tools (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
  • Able to learn and use new processes, techniques, and software to resourcefully solve complex technical issues.
