About the position

The Embedded Hardware Engineer at Ford Motor Company will be responsible for overseeing the design and development of analog/mixed signal hardware for various embedded systems. This role involves creating PCB schematics, layouts, and wiring harness designs while supporting existing solutions and developing new technologies. The position requires collaboration in a hybrid work environment, with a focus on technical oversight and cross-functional responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design state-of-the-art embedded hardware incorporating complex analog and mixed signal circuits for microcontroller/FPGA based embedded electronics.
  • Lead conception and development of high-speed mixed signal electronic products, defining topology, schematic, and components selection.
  • Leverage PCB design tools to design and validate hardware/software configurations and define product specifications.
  • Research product standards and requirements for state-of-the-art technologies, driving component selection and benchmarking competitive products.
  • Review component and hardware documentation from suppliers to perform analysis/design feasibility.
  • Create design documentation throughout the product lifecycle including product ideations, prototyping, manufacturing, and post-launch support.
  • Create and execute electrical test plans for design verification and support performance characterization of new designs.
  • Coordinate prototyping of product designs, wiring harnesses, PCBs, and electromechanical components.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to execute new product launches and resolve production issues.
  • Attend design review meetings and provide technical feedback, creating safety and quality procedures governed by applicable standards.
  • Prepare product proposals of new design concepts for potential use-cases.
  • Support and troubleshoot user-reported hardware related issues and maintain existing hardware designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant industry experience in electronics circuit design and board layout.
  • 5+ years of experience designing high speed analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics circuits.
  • 5+ years of experience using EDA CAD PCB design software to create schematic and layouts for digital/mixed signal circuit elements.
  • 5+ years of experience generating BOM and Gerber files for BGA/Surface mount and through hole components.
  • 5+ years of experience routing single/multi-layer PCBs with impedance-controlled, blind/buried vias, differential signal pairs, and matching length traces.
  • 5+ years of experience designing interfaces across analog and digital peripherals for embedded micro-controllers/FPGAs/GPUs.
  • 5+ years of experience in power circuit analysis, including worst-case circuit analysis and failure mode analysis.
  • Proficient with signal integrity and medium/high-speed time and frequency domain testing using oscilloscopes and signal analyzers.
  • Ability to perform hand soldering/electrotechnical rework for circuit boards and wiring harnesses.
  • Familiarity with existing electronics industry supply chains and material sourcing/manufacturing of PCB components.
  • Exposure to product pre/post launch support and end of life product life cycle.
