About the position

PACCAR Embedded Engineering organization has an immediate opening for an Embedded Hardware Integration Engineer to join our team in Kirkland, WA. This role is pivotal in the design, integration, and release of electrical and electronic components and systems for heavy and medium-duty commercial truck vehicles. The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating and releasing embedded electronics hardware for vehicle and drive line controls, ensuring that all components meet industry-leading quality and reliability standards. The position requires collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, including mechanical engineers and manufacturing engineers, to develop innovative solutions that exceed customer expectations. In this role, you will lead the electronics engineering requirements specification and project management processes, maintaining schedule, budget, scope, and functionality. You will also manage relationships with tier 1 and 2 suppliers, plan and track validation of components, and support launches at truck assembly plants. The Embedded Hardware Integration Engineer will be expected to investigate and resolve warranty issues related to powertrain electrical claims, demonstrating strong planning, budgeting, and organizational skills. Responsibilities

  • Design, integration, and release of electrical and electronic components and systems for heavy and medium duty commercial truck vehicles.
  • Integrate and release embedded electronics hardware for vehicle and drive line controls.
  • Complete engineering change notice documentation to manage old and new parts and use proprietary software to issue part bid requests.
  • Lead electronics engineering requirements specification and project management processes to maintain schedule, budget, scope, and functionality.
  • Work with and lead heavy truck OEM engineering supplier relationships with tier 1 and 2 suppliers.
  • Plan and track validation of components.
  • Support launch at truck assembly plants as needed and resolve field issues as identified.
  • Ensure industry-leading quality and reliability are met/maintained/exceeded on all components.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with mechanical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and other professionals to ensure quality heavy-duty truck electrical designs.
  • Investigate and resolve warranty issues for power train electrical-related claims.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree required.
  • 7+ years of experience in the design & release of automotive or commercial vehicle electrical components, electronic controls, switches, driver input devices, and/or HMI.
  • Experience with tier 1 supplier management, selection, hardware development, validation, and release.
  • Embedded electronics component technical requirement specification development and execution.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, lean, collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good planning/tracking skills.
  • Competency with standard business software tools (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
  • Able to learn and use new processes and techniques and resourcefully solve complex technical issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands-on experience interpreting system schematics, wiring diagrams, and subsystem block diagrams.
  • Proficiency using Engineering tools (Pro-Engineer, Mentor Graphics, Matlab/Simulink, Rhapsody).
  • SAE J1939 CAN and ISO 17987 LIN Protocol.
  • Awareness of automotive, medium, and heavy-duty commercial truck regulations.
  • Experience with V-model design development and validation processes.
  • Experience with ISO 26262 functional safety guidelines and implementation.
  • Experience with failure modes and effects analysis and or hazard risk assessments.
  • Experience in automotive or similar technical requirements specification design and release.
  • Safety, on Board Diagnostics, and other areas impacting electrical/electronic design, architecture, and functionality.
  • Knowledge of DFSS tools including FMEA, QFD, etc.
  • Embedded real-time systems design and implementation.
  • Master's degree in the appropriate technical field (CS or EE preferred) and/or Professional Engineering license.
