About the position

At Apple, we are looking for a highly motivated Cellular Modem Software Engineering Manager to lead the development of our next generation of cellular products. This role is situated within the Wireless Technologies team, where you will be responsible for modem firmware architecture, design, development, and implementation. You will collaborate closely with various teams including the BSP team, software team, platform architecture team, hardware team, and other engineering disciplines to deliver high-performance modems for our wireless products. Your passion for innovation and dedication to excellence will be crucial as you guide your team through the complexities of embedded firmware development. As the Embedded Software Manager, you will oversee all firmware-related activities, ensuring that our hardware and software systems are architected, designed, developed, and maintained to meet the high standards expected of Apple products. You will be expected to lead large and complex projects, managing feature planning, prioritization, status tracking, and issue triage and reporting. Your role will also involve fostering a collaborative environment where your team can thrive and innovate, ultimately contributing to the delivery of groundbreaking products that redefine industries. We are seeking candidates who are upbeat, innovative, adaptable, and results-oriented, with a positive attitude. You should have a strong background in embedded firmware and/or software architecture and development, with at least 7 years of significant experience in the field. Experience in cellular firmware development is a plus, as is a genuine passion for product development from inception through to delivery to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of next-generation cellular products.
  • Oversee modem firmware architecture, design, development, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with BSP, software, platform architecture, and hardware teams.
  • Manage all firmware-related activities for Apple products.
  • Architect, design, develop, and maintain hardware and software systems.
  • Lead large and complex projects, including feature planning and prioritization.
  • Foster a collaborative environment for team innovation and growth.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of validated experience in wireless SoC firmware engineering.
  • Experience in engineering management, including leadership of wireless firmware teams.
  • Strong embedded software fundamentals, including design and development flows.
  • Deep understanding of real-time constraints, concurrency, and multi-processor systems.
  • Familiarity with low-level hardware interfaces and bare-metal software development.
  • Experience with configuration and release management, continuous integration, and regression testing.
  • Knowledge of design strategies for maintainability, scalability, and code reuse.
  • Understanding of wireless systems, MAC and PHY layer operations, and digital signal processing.
  • Experience with WiFi, Bluetooth, or similar wireless technologies.
  • Experience in HW/SW architecture and design partitioning, CPU selection, and memory estimation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including experience leading teams.
