About the position

The Embedded Software Test Engineer will be responsible for software verification, test planning, and execution for embedded software on tractors, specifically focusing on the drivetrain control subsystem. This role involves creating test plans, defining regression testing levels, increasing test case automation, and ensuring the availability of various test environments. The position is part of the Waterloo software delivery team and requires onsite work immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Create the tractor sub-system software verification test plan for features and defects once per software planning session.
  • Define the appropriate level of regression testing required in each round of testing.
  • Increase test case automation for the control subsystem.
  • Be accountable for software verification and test execution.
  • Track metrics as defined by the Software Test Supervisor, including test case coverage, test results, and defects found.
  • Ensure the availability of test environments (MiL, SiL, HiL, ViL) and define which to use based on the test strategy.

Requirements

  • One or more years of experience working in mechatronics, with a solid understanding of electrical and electronics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems.
  • One or more years of control system experience, preferably related to propulsion systems and/or agriculture equipment.
  • One or more years of experience with embedded control systems in product development or testing.
  • One or more years of experience with electronic test tools and simulation tools for analysis and verification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Model Based Software Design (MBSD) and/or system simulation (e.g., Matlab or Simulink).
  • Experience with test case automation tools (e.g., ECU-Test).
  • Experience in an Agile/Scrum software development environment.
  • One or more years of experience with CAN bus and testing tools.
  • Experience operating agricultural/off-road equipment.
  • ISTQB Certification or equivalent.
