The Navigation Research and Development Division (NRDD), part of The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at The Pennsylvania State University, is seeking Undergraduate and Graduate Student Co-ops to support research, development, and engineering activities. The NRDD is focused on developing advanced navigation technologies and is equipped with unique laboratories designed for testing precise navigation sensors and systems. As an embedded systems and hardware co-op, you will be involved in laboratory operations related to the development, testing, and evaluation of navigation systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside a cooperative team of scientists and engineers, engaging in hands-on work that includes entry-level electrical and mechanical design, as well as software and firmware development. In this position, you will work on various projects that involve designing and building hardware to interface with state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation. You will also be responsible for programming software to interface with this equipment, developing software for logging and processing test data, designing test fixtures, performing tests, and analyzing data. This co-op position is designed to help you learn or strengthen practical skills in programming languages such as C++, C#, Python, and MATLAB, as well as drafting electrical schematics, solid modeling, hardware interfacing, and electrical fabrication. The ideal candidates are undergraduate and graduate students studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, who are available to work at the Warminster facility for a six-month period. Multiple vacancies are available, and candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
