About the position

The Embedded Systems and Hardware Co-Op position at Penn State University involves supporting research, development, and engineering activities within the Navigation Research and Development Division (NRDD) of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL). This role is designed for undergraduate and graduate students, focusing on the development and testing of advanced navigation technologies. The co-op will engage in hands-on work, including electrical/mechanical design and software/firmware development, contributing to various projects aimed at enhancing navigation systems for U.S. government sponsors.

Responsibilities

• Support laboratory operations related to the development, testing, and evaluation of navigation systems.
• Work with a cooperative team of scientists and engineers on hands-on projects.
• Engage in entry-level electrical/mechanical design and software/firmware development.
• Design and build hardware to interface with state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation.
• Program software to interface with equipment and for logging/processing test data.
• Design test fixtures, perform tests, and analyze data.

Requirements

• Undergraduate or Graduate student status in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering preferred.
• Availability to work at the Warminster facility for a six-month period.
• U.S. citizenship required due to government security investigation.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with C++/C#/Python/MATLAB programming.
• Familiarity with drafting electrical schematics and solid modeling.
• Knowledge of hardware interfacing and electrical fabrication.
