About the position

Professional Staffing Partners is seeking an Emergency Communications Engineer to join our team in Greenville, SC. This position is a contract assignment lasting one year, with the possibility of three additional one-year option periods. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project, focusing on the design and implementation of emergency communications systems. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of emergency communication, public address, and mass notification systems, as well as the ability to coordinate these systems throughout various phases of engineering projects, from planning and design to construction and project start-up. The Emergency Communications Engineer will be responsible for a wide range of design activities, including defining system architecture, developing digital systems, configuring networks, and establishing communication protocols. The engineer will also be involved in the procurement activities necessary for the successful implementation of these systems. A key aspect of this role is the development and implementation of cabling and layout designs for emergency communications, ensuring that all installations meet the required standards and codes. In addition to technical skills, the engineer must be adept at interpreting and applying various National, State, and Local codes and standards, such as NFPA, IBC, ISA, and IEEE. This includes preparing and reviewing design documents, specifications, and system descriptions to ensure compliance with customer requirements and industry standards. Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate emergency communications, public address, and mass notification engineering for multi-disciplined design projects throughout the planning, design, and construction phases.
  • Perform a broad range of emergency communication, public address, and mass notification system design activities, including design definition, system architecture and development, digital systems, network configuration, logic development, network switches, communication protocols, routing and layout, and procurement activities.
  • Develop and implement emergency communications, public address, and mass notification cabling, cabinet/panel/enclosure layout, and cabling pathway design (e.g., cable tray, conduit, and underground duct bank).
  • Interpret and apply National, State, and Local codes/standards such as NFPA, IBC, ISA, and IEEE, as well as customer design requirements for the preparation of emergency communication, public address, and mass notification system design/construction documents, specifications, and system descriptions related to assigned tasks.
  • Prepare and review the accuracy of design/evaluation calculations and specifications.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in emergency communications, public address, and mass notification system design.
  • Strong understanding of National, State, and Local codes/standards such as NFPA, IBC, ISA, and IEEE.
  • Experience with digital systems, network configuration, and communication protocols.
  • Ability to develop and implement cabling and layout designs for emergency communications systems.
  • Strong analytical skills for preparing and reviewing design calculations and specifications.
