About The Position

The Emergency Communications Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations and personnel of the Ames Emergency Communications Center. This role involves managing daily operations, supervising staff, and acting as a liaison with emergency response agencies and equipment vendors. The supervisor ensures compliance with policies and procedures while providing high-quality service in emergency communications.

Requirements

• Associate degree in a relatable field of study.
• At least five years of experience as a dispatcher in an emergency communications center.
• Training or education in personnel management, emergency communications systems, and computer applications administration is preferred.
• Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
• Must obtain current IOWA/NCIC, CPR, and Emergency Medical Dispatching certifications within six months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and directs the personnel and operations of the Emergency Communications Center.
• Assists in hiring new employees and develops training procedures for staff.
• Prepares work schedules and evaluates employee performance.
• Collaborates with other Police Department supervisors to ensure quality service.
• Responds to the Comm Center in the event of an emergency and functions in an on-call capacity.
• Performs administrative functions related to the Comm Center, including budget planning and policy development.
• Maintains Comm Center records and ensures proper documentation is forwarded to relevant areas.
• Acts as liaison regarding Comm Center issues to the City's Information Services department and other agencies.
• Develops systems and strategies to comply with state and federal requirements.
