About the position

The Emergency Department RN is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients in the emergency department. This role involves assessing patient needs, planning and implementing individualized care plans, and evaluating their effectiveness. The RN collaborates with healthcare team members to ensure patient-centered care and safety, while also participating in quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Uses the nursing process to assess patient needs and implement individualized interventions.
  • Involves patients and families in care planning and maintains therapeutic relationships.
  • Recognizes significant changes in patient conditions and adjusts care plans accordingly.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members to coordinate patient-centered care.
  • Implements strategies to reduce patient risk and enhance safety.
  • Assesses patient and family readiness to learn and tailors educational approaches.
  • Coordinates discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Applies evidence-based practices in patient care delivery.
  • Incorporates nursing and regulatory standards into practice.
  • Evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes and takes action when necessary.
  • Supports shared governance activities to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Promotes collaboration among healthcare team members and assumes a leadership role.
  • Identifies threats to patient safety and intervenes to prevent harm.
  • Reports patient safety events and assists in implementing corrective actions.
  • Participates in quality/process improvement initiatives.
  • Engages in professional development and mentoring opportunities.

Requirements

  • Valid Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • Typically requires 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
  • Demonstrates holistic patient care and family-focused clinical approach.
  • Proficient in computer skills, electronic medical records, and communication tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to make critical, independent decisions and manage time effectively.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
