About the position
The Emergency Department Technician at Cobb Hospital is a full-time role focused on providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The technician performs various patient care functions and technical procedures, including vital signs monitoring, EKGs, wound care, and patient transport, while ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and maintaining a well-stocked care area.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and document vital signs; inform nurse if vital signs are abnormal.
- Perform 12-lead EKG and hand to ED physician.
- Perform bedside blood sugar testing; inform nurse if result is abnormal.
- Measure and apply extremity splints as directed by nurse or physician.
- Instruct patient regarding safe crutch ambulation techniques with return demonstration by patient.
- Perform oral suctioning and superficial wound care.
- Conduct procedures using aseptic technique, including urethral catheterization and phlebotomy.
- Transport patients, unit supplies, equipment, and patient medications safely.
- Monitor patients in restraint/seclusion and document observations.
- Observe cardiac monitors to recognize arrhythmias and communicate findings to registered professionals.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficiency with desktop computer.
- Demonstrated willingness to be a team-player and a self-starter.
- Proficiency in obtaining vital signs using manual processes.
