About the position
The Emergency Department Technician at Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital is responsible for providing essential patient care and support in the Emergency Room. This role involves performing daily living activities, assisting with technical procedures under the supervision of licensed nurses, and ensuring effective communication with patients and healthcare team members. The technician plays a vital role in maintaining patient safety, documenting care, and contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient care activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Record data and report observations and patient problems to the licensed nurse and/or provider.
- Assist in clerical tasks such as answering phones and transcribing orders.
- Conduct self in a manner congruent with cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
- Perform delegated low-risk, high-frequency technical and clinical procedures required for patient care.
- Document comprehensive screenings, care administered, and treatments as per established policies and procedures.
- Make hourly rounds to ensure patient needs are met and report any changes in condition.
- Respond to the call light system and follow through with meeting patient needs.
- Assist in inventory management and ordering of supplies and medical equipment.
- Seek opportunities for continual development and participate in performance improvement projects.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support).
- EMT Certification (Basic or Intermediate).
- Six months of experience in an emergency setting or relevant certification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
