About the position

The Emergency Department Technician at Emory Healthcare plays a crucial role in providing high-quality care to patients in the emergency department. This full-time position involves a variety of responsibilities, including patient care, assisting medical staff, and ensuring a safe and efficient environment for both patients and healthcare providers. The technician will work closely with doctors and nurses to support patient treatment and maintain operational standards in the emergency department.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures general patient satisfaction by providing blankets, food, and updates on treatment status.
  • Performs peripheral IV placement, specimen collection, general phlebotomy, and blood cultures.
  • Responsible for the placement of various splints and performing general wound care, bandaging, and irrigation.
  • Takes vital signs and performs accuchecks.
  • Transports patients to and from diagnostic tests and assists in acute and code situations.
  • Collaborates with medical staff to support patient care and responds to emergency situations as part of the Code Blue disaster team.
  • Monitors stock and supplies to ensure par levels are maintained and complies with infection control procedures.
  • Performs clerical duties, including answering phones and directing inquiries from other departments.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited EMT-Advanced or EMT-Intermediate training program.
  • Current certification as an EMT-I, EMT-A, or EMT-P, and CPR certification.
  • One year of related experience preferred, with previous ED experience being a plus.
