The Emergency Management/Response Specialist position at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a critical role within the Emergency Response Group, which is dedicated to supporting emergency response activities related to various incidents, including chemical spills, radiation contamination, and other hazardous situations. This position can be filled at either the Specialist 1 or Specialist 2 level, depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The primary mission of the Emergency Response Group is to ensure preparedness and effective response to emergencies, which includes training, capability development, and equipment maintenance. As a member of the Explosives Operations section, you will be part of a close-knit team that plays a vital role in managing explosive hazards and supporting emergency response scenarios. Your responsibilities will include identifying and investigating explosive hazards, providing support for hazardous materials scenarios, and assisting in the coordination and maintenance of training facilities. The role requires a proactive approach to emergency management, with a focus on dynamic and fast-paced environments where quick decision-making is essential. For those hired at the Specialist 2 level, additional responsibilities will include conducting explosive operations during training events and emergency responses, presenting training courses to both internal and external personnel, and achieving certification as a LANL HE Handler and Firing Site Leader within the first year of employment. This position is integral to the safety and effectiveness of emergency response operations at LANL, contributing to national and international emergency response programs involving nuclear, radiological, and biological incidents.
