About the position

The Emergency Management Specialist (Mitigation) position at FEMA involves supporting the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) initiative by providing tailored technical assistance to communities and tribal nations. The role focuses on enhancing local capabilities for hazard mitigation and climate adaptation planning, coordinating with various experts, and managing a significant caseload to address community needs effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to communities and tribal nations for designing equitable hazard mitigation solutions.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts to identify local needs and deliver technical assistance.
  • Assist in the delivery of assistance using project management principles to manage a large caseload.
  • Analyze community capability and capacity needs to target technical assistance effectively.
  • Represent the FEMA Mitigation Division at public outreach events and partner meetings.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the IC-09 level in the Federal government, including participation in emergency response training and providing technical assistance related to disaster programs.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or a combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in emergency management or disaster recovery programs.
  • Knowledge of FEMA's natural hazard mitigation programs.
