About the position

The Emergency Medical Dispatcher operates the communications center for Rockford Ambulance, ensuring that all requests for ambulance services are handled efficiently and effectively. This role is critical in coordinating emergency responses, maintaining communication with ambulance crews, and ensuring the safety of all responding units.

Responsibilities

• Receives all requests for ambulance service and fulfills them as soon as possible.
• Answers all incoming telephone calls and directs them to the appropriate person.
• Coordinates the movement of company ambulances.
• Maintains constant communications with ambulance crews.
• Obtains exact location, nature of problem, phone number and other pertinent information from those requesting an ambulance.
• Requests assistance from other agencies as needed.
• In the event of communications failure, notifies appropriate agency that repairs are needed and assures that company communications are maintained.
• Schedules non-emergency calls so as not to interfere with ability to provide emergency services.
• Coordinates Rockford Ambulance radio traffic.
• Monitors activities of other public service agencies.
• Provides assistance to ambulance crews as needed.
• Documents dispatch activity as required.
• Records all dispatch activity on dispatch computer accurately.
• Provides for the safety of responding units and other emergency responders by sharing all pertinent information gathered.
• Directs units to response locations utilizing maps, etc.

Requirements

• Valid Driver's License
• Experience in Typing
