The Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship Post-Graduate Training Program at UT Southwestern is an intensive, one-year clinical training program designed for physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses who are seeking specialized training in emergency medicine. This program is open to both new graduates and experienced clinicians, providing a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment. The fellowship aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in emergency medicine, focusing on comprehensive patient care, technical proficiency, and evidence-based practices. Throughout the program, fellows will conduct and document comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological assessments. They will synthesize data to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans, which includes ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies. The program emphasizes the importance of collaboration, as fellows will work alongside experienced healthcare professionals to facilitate quality improvement initiatives and participate in research projects. Fellows will also be responsible for providing relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients and their families regarding current care and preventive health measures. The program is designed to foster a supportive learning environment, encouraging fellows to maintain their clinical and technical skills while identifying opportunities for improvement in departmental policies and procedures. This fellowship not only prepares participants for a successful career in emergency medicine but also instills a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
