About the position

The Emergency Medicine Representative serves as a primary contact for the Emergency Department, Trauma Team, and Life Flight patients at MetroHealth. This role involves resolving issues related to scheduling, registration, benefits verification, and payor preauthorization. The representative is also a member of the Trauma Activation Team, responsible for obtaining and verifying patient information to ensure optimal reimbursement for services provided. The position emphasizes customer service and adherence to the mission and values of The MetroHealth System.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for the Emergency Department, Trauma Team, and Life Flight patients.
• Resolve issues related to scheduling, registration, benefits verification, and payor preauthorization.
• Respond as a member of the Trauma Activation Team by obtaining and verifying patient information.
• Achieve optimal reimbursement through registration, benefits verification, payor preauthorization, and cash collection activities.
• Uphold the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience in insurance information collection/assessment, benefits verification, and preauthorization processing, or an Associate's Degree in Health Care Management or a related field.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English professionally.
• Demonstrated skills in customer service and collecting patient demographic and insurance information.
• Expertise in interviewing patients and family members.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Pass the PSR pre-employment screening test with a score of 75% or better, and the post-employment test with a score of 80% or better.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with computer-based billing systems.
• Proof of completion of a medical terminology course from a recognized healthcare program.
• Experience in an Emergency Department.
