About the position

As an Emergency Response Team Member at Bechtel Corporation, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and emergency preparedness of the Port Arthur LNG project. This position requires you to respond to emergencies in a professional and timely manner, aiming to minimize loss to life, property, and the environment. You will be part of a high-performance team that is dedicated to improving safety standards and emergency preparedness through proactive measures, including emergency prevention and workforce education activities. Your leadership will be instrumental in achieving the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) performance expectations, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. In this role, you will manage global ESH services, establishing strategic objectives, standards, systems, and policies for ESH performance across corporate functions, global business units (GBUs), and projects. You will supervise EHS personnel, facilitating their development through coaching and mentoring, and ensure that ESH requirements are properly interpreted and integrated into GBU processes, planning, procedures, and training. Your responsibilities will also include developing and sustaining the ESH Management System, confirming adherence to ESH requirements, and managing budgets, schedules, and resources for implementing complex ESH requirements. As part of the ERT crew, you will respond to various emergency incidents, including fires, equipment malfunctions, and hazardous material situations. You will operate emergency response vehicles and equipment safely and effectively, provide first aid and resuscitation as needed, and maintain ERT equipment to ensure operational readiness. Your role will encompass a range of functions that require practical application of your skills and knowledge, including research, risk reduction, readiness, response, recovery, and education.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergencies in a professional and timely manner to minimize loss to life, property, and the environment.
  • Contribute to emergency prevention and workforce education activities to improve safety and emergency preparedness.
  • Manage global Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) services and establish strategic objectives, standards, systems, and policy for ESH performance.
  • Supervise EHS personnel and facilitate their development through assignments, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Oversee and assure that ESH requirements are properly interpreted and integrated in GBU processes, planning, procedures, and training.
  • Develop and sustain the ESH Management System and ensure its application across all functions, GBUs, and projects.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and resources for interpreting and implementing complex ESH requirements.
  • Conduct audits to confirm ESH compliance with contractual commitments, laws and regulations, and Bechtel standards.
  • Respond to fire, equipment and machinery incidents, rescue/entrapments, technical rescues, and hazardous material incidents.
  • Operate emergency response vehicles and equipment safely and effectively, including driving rescue apparatus under varying conditions.
  • Provide first aid and resuscitation where required.
  • Maintain ERT equipment, resources, and facilities to ensure a constant state of operational readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience, or 6-9 years of relevant work experience related to occupational safety or health.
  • NFPA 1006, 2021 Edition, Rope Awareness and Operations Training (Pro Board Certifications or equivalent).
  • Incident Command Awareness training.
  • Experience in High Angle Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, and Swift Water Rescue.
  • Previous experience in Fire and Rescue operations.
  • Experience in operating Oil, Gas & Chemical Plant/Facilities and/or Construction environments.
  • Experience in Emergency Medical Response.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pro Board Certifications in additional rescue techniques.
  • Advanced first aid certifications.
  • Experience with LNG facilities or projects.
