About the position

The Emergency Room Technician functions under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. He/she provides non-licensed direct patient care to neonate through geriatric patients. He/she assists the healthcare team by providing personal assistance to patients by caring for the patient, equipment and supplies and also by providing clerical and nursing care support services.

Responsibilities

  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

  • Understands and abides by HIPPA privacy and security laws and regulations.
  • Observes all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Observes all Mercy Health System and applicable subsidiary policies and procedures including the Code of Conduct.
  • Completes compliance related education.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and compliance with Hospital Safety and Infection Control policies as required by OSHA and the patient Safety Program.
  • Provides a safe environment for all patients, employees, and visitors.
  • Identifies safety problems encountered during the course work that if corrected may result in the prevention of accident/injury to patients, employees and visitors and reports problems to appropriate supervisor or the Patient Safety Hotline.
  • Participates constructively in Performance Improvement activities in the department.
  • Recognizes special needs/concerns of populations served and adjusts communication accordingly.
  • Actively participates in staff meetings and/or committee on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrates essential knowledge and skills when performing/assisting in procedures and treatments.
  • Sets up trays; feeds patients as needed.
  • Assures assigned patients receive a diet once determined clinically cleared by the ED physician / primary RN assigned to patient.
  • Documents and demonstrates restraint care according to policy when performing 1:1/close observation patient monitoring.
  • Maintains current BCLS/CPR certification and performs BCLS/CPR in Code Blue situations.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous nursing assistant, EMT, and/or emergency room experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
