About the position
The Emergency Screening Coordinator is responsible for managing the initial screening process for clients in a mental health emergency setting. This role involves greeting clients, conducting necessary assessments, ensuring confidentiality, and maintaining a safe and efficient environment. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, including potential weekend and overnight shifts, and emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to mental health treatment.
Responsibilities
- Attend mandatory Emergency Screening Training
- Greet clients in the screening area and inventory personal effects
- Perform breath alcohol testing and vital signs checks
- Obtain urine samples for on-site drug screening
- Notify RN on duty of abnormal vital sign readings
- Apply wristband identification and provide photo identification
- Initiate 'Flow Sheet' documentation and enter client information into electronic health records
- Verify payer eligibility and process Baker Act forms
- Maintain efficient workflow and minimize client waiting times
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment in the Emergency Screening area
- Provide care and custody for patients, including offering snacks and hygiene supplies
- Support and guide coworkers as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, health administration, or related field preferred
- AA degree or certification as a Medical/Nursing Assistant with 3 years of related experience
- High school diploma with 5 years of recent acute, inpatient mental health, or similar crisis-related experience
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in inpatient mental health settings
- Certification in CPR or First Aid
