The Emergency Service Technician (EMT) position at Aurora Sinai Medical Center involves providing essential technical care to patients in a fast-paced environment. The EMT will assist physicians and registered nurses by performing a variety of tasks that are critical to patient care. This includes conducting phlebotomy and IV starts, transporting patients to different departments, and placing patients on cardiac and vital sign monitors. The EMT will also be responsible for performing wound care, inserting Foley catheters, and obtaining lab specimens as needed. In addition to direct patient care, the EMT will document all relevant information and procedures, ensuring that observations, concerns, and patient needs are communicated promptly to the registered nurse. The role requires processing daily patient charges and related procedures through the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Collaboration with physicians is essential to facilitate effective communication and coordination of patient care, which includes managing various forms of communication such as phone calls, verbal updates, paging, electronic messages, faxes, and interactions with the EMS system. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment is a key responsibility, adhering to department safety policies and standard precautions. The EMT will also monitor equipment, troubleshoot minor issues, and arrange for repairs of major malfunctions. The position requires physical capabilities, including patient positioning and transporting duties that involve lifting and pushing/pulling, all while utilizing proper techniques. The EMT must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan, and be able to assess and interpret data reflective of each patient's status. Licensure and certification are required for this position, including an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic license or higher, as well as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. The role is full-time, primarily on the 3rd shift, with weekend and holiday rotations required. The EMT will be expected to maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
