The Emergency Services Technician PRN Premium plays a crucial role in supporting the Emergency Room staff by performing various approved patient treatments and procedures under supervision. This position is essential in ensuring that patients receive timely and compassionate care during their stay in the emergency department. The technician is responsible for participating in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, which includes greeting patients and their families, orienting them to their environment, and taking vital signs. The technician also assists patients with personal hygiene and daily living activities, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment for all patients. In addition to direct patient care, the Emergency Services Technician is tasked with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the work area. This includes ensuring that patient linens are adequate and clean, and that supplies are well-stocked. The technician must also adhere to established guidelines and safety protocols, including infection control standards, to provide a safe environment for both patients and staff. The role requires close supervision and collaboration with nursing staff, as well as effective communication skills to relay messages and assist in patient care. The technician is also responsible for retrieving medications from the pharmacy and delivering them to the appropriate personnel, ensuring that all actions are performed in a professional and caring manner. This position is vital in supporting the overall operations of the emergency department and enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Performs approved patient treatments and procedures (e.g., accucheck, catheterization, non-medicated enemas) under supervision.
  • Expediently answers patient call lights and assists patients with personal hygiene and daily living activities.
  • Participates in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes by greeting patients and their families, taking vital signs, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Provides safe care of patient clothing and valuables, ensuring items are accurately described and secured.
  • Retrieves medications from the pneumatic tube system and delivers them to the nurse or places them in a secure location as determined by the nurse manager.
  • Answers incoming telephone and intercom calls, relaying messages to appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in providing proper identification and care for deceased patients and comforts family members.
  • Ensures that the work area is kept neat, clean, orderly, and safe at all times.
  • Maintains adequate inventory levels by preparing and submitting requisitions for supplies and equipment.
  • Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, following safety and infection control standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and Specialized Training.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria: Nurse Aide Certification, one year experience in an emergency medicine environment, Certified Medical Assistant, Louisiana state EMT license, or be a Junior or Senior in an accredited nursing program.
  • BLS Certification.
