About the position

The Emergency Shelter Caseworker at the Center Against Family Violence plays a crucial role in supporting victims of family violence and sexual assault. This position involves planning, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive action plans to ensure the safety and well-being of clients. The caseworker will conduct assessments, advocate for clients within community systems, and provide ongoing support to help clients achieve self-sufficiency and a violence-free lifestyle.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and monitor a comprehensive plan of action for family violence and sexual assault victims.
  • Conduct a comprehensive written assessment, safety plan, and service plan with shelter residents within 24 hours of their entrance into the facility.
  • Advocate for clients within various community systems such as medical, social, and criminal justice.
  • Be on call for sexual assault hospital accompaniment for at least 4 six-hour shifts a month, including one holiday a year.
  • Support and follow up with clients regularly as they work to attain their goals.
  • Attend and participate in program review, staff meetings, and case staffing meetings.
  • Ensure all required documentation is included in each client's file.
  • Develop and implement group sessions for clients using best-practices models for intervention and prevention.
  • Compile statistics for the end of the month as needed by the Associate Director of Client Advocacy or Development Director.
  • Provide training on sexual violence and domestic violence services related to adults.
  • Perform general office tasks including answering calls, filing, and typing.
  • Answer Hope line calls and document referrals to community resources.
  • Notify Operations and Technology Directors of any needed equipment or facility repairs.
  • Cross train in residential and nonresidential advocacy in sexual abuse and domestic violence.
  • Assist and/or serve as contact person for Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, including completing legal intakes and attending meetings.
  • Supervise volunteers and/or interns, ensuring tasks are assigned and evaluations are completed.
  • Increase the Center's visibility in the community by attending meetings and making community presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in social work or related field OR 5 years' experience in a similar position.
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) is required.
  • Standard Class C Driver's License is required.
  • Knowledge of dynamics of family relationships and interpersonal relationships.
  • Working knowledge of Texas law pertaining to family violence and sexual violence.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct effective group sessions and deliver presentations.
  • Knowledge of working with volunteers and developing systems.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with individuals in the community.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and Microsoft applications.
  • Excellent follow-through and proven skills.
  • Creative, articulate, and diplomatic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong self-starter with problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible and irregular hours during peak periods.
  • Must agree to a Criminal History Background check.
  • Must complete required sexual assault advocate training within 2 months of employment.
