About the position

The Public Safety Department has a full-time staff position with benefits for an Emergency Telecommunications Operator. The Emergency Communication Center operates 24/7 and is looking for an individual who is flexible and able to work all shifts, including filling in for vacation and sick days. The Emergency Telecommunications Operator is responsible for controlling traffic onto campus and greeting people in a courteous and friendly manner, both in person and on the telephone. This role involves monitoring all alarms for the entire facility, dispatching operations, and performing various essential data entry tasks. The operator must be able to perform a multitude of simultaneous tasks in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while utilizing computer equipment and specialized computer programs.

Responsibilities

  • Control traffic onto campus

Requirements

  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to become APCO certified as a Public Safety Telecommunicator 1
  • Must be able to type a minimum of 20 words per minute
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years experience working with the general public
