About the position
The Emergency Veterinary Technician at MedVet plays a crucial role in providing high-quality care in a fast-paced emergency and specialty veterinary environment. This position involves evaluating incoming patients, collaborating with the patient care team, and delivering organized rounds while ensuring effective communication with clients and team members. The technician will handle various responsibilities, including monitoring hospitalized patients and assisting with procedures, all while embodying the core values of teamwork, leadership, and compassion.
Responsibilities
- Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as necessary.
- Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
- Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
- Provide client education including home care instructions, medications, and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
- Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
- Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
- Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
Requirements
- State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
- Prior veterinary experience required, previous emergency experience desired.
- Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.).
- Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
