About the position

The Emerging Store Manager at Walgreens is responsible for supervising customer service associates and managing the front end of the store. This role supports the Store Manager in overall store operations, ensuring effective merchandising, asset protection, and improved sales and profitability. The position involves leading a team, engaging with customers, and overseeing operational tasks to enhance customer experience and store performance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises customer service associates and designated hitters.
  • Manages front end of the store and makes recommendations on overall operations.
  • Supports Store Manager with overall store operations to achieve company deliverables.
  • Assumes responsibilities of all store activities in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Ensures proper merchandising and protection of store assets.
  • Improves store sales and profitability.
  • Leads and manages store team members, including recruitment, hiring, and performance management.
  • Engages customers and resolves complaints to ensure a positive experience.
  • Monitors customer service and provides coaching and training to team members.
  • Supervises daily store operations and assigns activities to team members.
  • Collaborates with external partners for community outreach opportunities.
  • Analyzes financial and performance data to create action plans for business deliverables.
  • Supports Pharmacy during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician when necessary.
  • Provides training, mentoring, and coaching to team members for career development.
  • Communicates regularly with team members to ensure open communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a solid academic record, all majors welcome OR satisfactorily completed a Walgreens Community Internship Program OR High School Diploma/GED and two years of experience in a supervisory position.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities including professional business ethics, self-motivation, and strong communication skills.
  • Completion of Store Manager training program (LEAP) or willingness to complete Walgreens Leadership Essentials training within 12 weeks of ESM start date.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule including extended days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to transfer to other Walgreens retail assets located within the same hiring area.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
  • Management experience, including supervising others, managing, and assigning work (for internal candidates).
  • Experience across both front-end and pharmacy (for internal candidates).
  • Prior retail or food industry experience (for external candidates).
