About the position

The Sr Principal EMI/EMC Electrical Engineer at BAE Systems is responsible for defining and implementing Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) compliance requirements, ensuring product performance in areas such as EMI, EMC, EME, ESD, EMP, and Lightning. This role involves leading major test programs, mentoring junior engineers, and participating in design reviews, all while working closely with both internal teams and external vendors. The position requires a high level of ingenuity and expertise in the field, contributing to the aerospace and defense industry's most challenging problems.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement EMI/EMC requirements for product performance.
  • Review, prepare, and modify EMI control plans and procedures.
  • Participate in design reviews and trade-off analysis for major programs.
  • Direct major test programs across BAE Systems and external vendor sites.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level EMI/EMC engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field).
  • Thorough working knowledge of MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-464.
  • Experience in EMI/EMC analysis and modeling, product qualification tests, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of virtual meeting tools such as Webex, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Excellent technical written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience presenting technical information to program teams and customers.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a STEM field (Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field).
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC test equipment and control software.
  • Working knowledge of RTCA DO-160.
  • Experience with software tools such as Matlab, MathCAD, PSPICE, LTSPICE, Feko, and ANSYS HFSS.
  • Previous experience with reading and interpreting circuit schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Prior experience with lightning mitigation in systems or subsystems.
  • Possess iNarte EMC Engineer Certification.
  • Possess Secret or Top Secret DoD security clearance.
